Loafer Movie Review
Storyline
Lakshmi (Revathi) leaves crores of
property for whom she loved (Posani Krishna Murali), but soon she realizes that
her husband is a greedy and selfish Loafer. While she hopes to get separated
from him along with her son, he takes away the young son (Varun Tej) and moves
away to Jodhpur. The greedy father up brings him as a pick-pocketer, making him
believe that his mother is dead. What happens when the son finds out his mother
is alive, and how will his mother react to him. Where does Parijatham (Disha
Patani) fit in the setup forms Loafer story.
Artists Performances
Varun Tej
after impressing classy audiences with Kanche, pleases masses this time in an
out and out mass role in Loafer. He has a good screen-presence and his dialogue
diction and modulation were too good. Varu Tej shows great ease in uttering
Puri mark one-liners while he needs to work on grace in his dances.
Disha Patani
makes a confident debut, and she looked hot in the movie. She performed well in
the limited-scope role.
Revathi is the
other major asset and stands out from the rest while Posani’s characterization and acting are loud. Saptagiri, Ali are wasted in poor
roles. Mukeh Rishi is okay in a
full-length villain role, while rest is adequate.
Technicians Role
Cinematography by PG Vinda is
attractive and colourful, while Sunil Kashyap’s music is below average and so
is the BGM. Suvvi Suvvalamma song is the best of lot. Puri impresses with his
catchy one-liners, but he once again shows his mediocre skill in direction
department. Screenplay is inconsistent and nothing special, while the story-line too is routine. Production values are just okay.
Analysis
Loafer storyline is interlaced with
mother-son sentiment, and is not new to Telugu audiences. Puri Jagannadh once
again pens similar kind-of script and similar hero-characterizations with lots
of heroism and elevation scenes. Varun Tej looks refreshing and delivers his
best for the role, but it’s the screenplay that is unexciting.
The first half of the film is
slow-paced with only Varun Tej being the highlight, while the interval bang
reminds us of Puri’s Pokiri film. Like all his earlier films, Puri Jagan blends
the commercial elements, with an emotional plot. Varun Tej-Revathi scenes are
the major asset for otherwise predictable second half. Forced comedy scenes and
not-so pleasing songs, along with routine taking are the minus points of
Loafer.
Overall, Loafer is a routine
commercial entertainer, which is neither Puri Jaganadh’s best nor his worst. Varun
Tej and Revathi saved the film to an extent.
Finally
Loafer- Routine Puri Jagannadh with
a different Varun Tej!
