Tollywood Hits and Misses 2015
Tollywood has seen around 165
releases in 2015, and few high-budget movies lived up to expectations and took
the box-office by storm while some other much-awaited movies
ended up as forgettable disasters. With small movies becoming money spinners for several producers, 2015 has been an experimental year for medium-budget producers earning surprising hits.
ended up as forgettable disasters. With small movies becoming money spinners for several producers, 2015 has been an experimental year for medium-budget producers earning surprising hits.
Here are the list of Tollywood
Hits and Misses 2015
Baahubali – All Time Industry Hit
Rajamouli’s Baahubali is the first
Telugu film to collect 100 crore share, becoming biggest hit in not Tollywood
but in Indian cinema history. The epic period drama has done stunning business
in all released versions Telugu, Tamil, Hindi and Malayalam, and it has created
records in overseas. Baahubali starred Prabhas, Rana, Anushka, Tamanna in lead
roles and is produced by Arka Media.
Blockbusters & Hits
Yet another big-budget film lived
up to the hype this year was Mahesh Babu’s Srimanthudu directed by Koratala
Siva. With the right blend of commercial elements and underlying message,
Srimanthudu has collected a whopping share of around Rs. 85 crore, and is just
next to Baahubali in records. Shruti Haasan played the heroine in Mytri Movie
Makers production film.
Nani and Maruthi’s Bhale Bhale
Magadivoi surprised everyone with his sensational million dollar collections in
overseas. The romantic-comedy was liked by audiences for Nani’s entertaining
performance, pleasant music and rich production values.
Kalyan Ram’s Pataas has become
another biggest hit this year. Writer turned director Anil Ravipudi has made
Pataas a right mix of commercial and mass entertainer. Pataas brought back the
lost glory of Kalyan Ram, although his Sher resulted as flop later.
Following the success path of
Premakatha Chitram, Geethanjali, the low budget horror comedy Rajugari Gadhi
has set the cash registers ringing at the ticket windows. The film struck right
chords bringing smiles to the producers and distributors. The comedy elements
and suspense factor turned major asset for Raju Gaari Gadhi.
2015 has been a good year for
young hero Raj Tharun who scored back-to-back hits with Cinema Choopista Mama,
and Kumari 21F. Both the films have done a good business and made Raj Tharun a
bankable star in tinsel town.
Temper is one of the best
commercial films released this year, and the film has made NTR back in game in
Tollywood. With career best performance of NTR, and impressive writing by Puri
Jagannadh, Temper has joined 40 crores club though it failed to enter 50 crore
movie club.
Tollywood Disasters 2015
Take a look at the unexpected
Tollywood top disaster films of 2015
Akhil was definitely one of the
much awaited debuts of the season, and several Tollywood celebrities called the
young lad as future star. The film was made on a grand scale, and it was
promoted on a wider scale. However, it has ended up as the biggest
disappointment of the year with the buyers losing more than sixty percent of
their investment.
Ram’s Shivam introducing Srinivas
Reddy, protégé of Sunder Reddy as director to Tollywood was released with huge
expectations. The film was made with whopping budget and production values are
on top notch. However, the content was not appealing enough to set the cash
registers ringing. Despite DSP’s pleasing tunes and Ram’s good act, Shivam
couldn’t be saved at BO bringing massive losses to producer Sravanthi Ravi Kishore.
With Ram Charan and the trio
Sreenu Vaitla, Kona Venkat and Gopi Mohan on board, Bruce Lee looked like sure
shot winner, but the movie with its mixed talk failed to sustain at the
box-office. Even Megastar Chiranjeevi’s cameo didn’t help out from making it a
complete disaster. Bruce Lee was a major flop in overseas areas. Despite of collecting
40 plus crores Bruce Lee bought losses to distributors.
Bala Krishna’s Lion which was
released right after blockbuster Legend ended up as major dud at the
box-office. Debutant director Satyadeva failed to make Lion a gripping film
with illogical twists and turns. NBK Lion which was sold out for good prices
managed to collect only 20 Crores at box-office.
Ravi Teja’s Kick was one of the
biggest hits in his career, and when the sequel was announced the expectations
were massive. Kalyan Ram produced the film with whopping amount, but the
unexciting screenplay and lack of entertainment quotient bought Kick 2 bad talk
and resulted disastrous.
Other major disasters of
Tollywood 2015 include Kalyan Ram’s Sher, Gopichand’s Soukyam, Anushka’s Size
Zero, Nikhil’s Sankarabharanam, Nithin’s Courier Boy Kalyan, Vishnu Manchu’s
Dynamite, Sai Dharam Tej’s Rey etc.
