'Ward Number 6' is a play based on a novella by Russian author Anton Chekov. It was adapted into 'Katthale Daari Doora', a kannada play by D.R. Nagaraj, in 1977. It was first performed by Samudaya theatre group.
Interestingly, the Kannada adaptation brings to forefront the political angle in the novella. It is a character of influential plays to be performed all over the world, across many generations. Ward Number 6 is no exception.
It is deplorable that those who question the authority are portrayed as traitors, fools, and idiots. Ward Number 6 is our attempt at speaking truth to power.
